Discovering the Past, Honoring the Present: A Conversation on Archaeology and Native Communities

Discovering the Past, Honoring the Present: A Conversation on Archaeology and Native Communities In-Person

This thought-provoking panel explores the role of archaeology in understanding and honoring Native American communities in the Coastal Bend. Moderated by Dr. Peter Moore, Professor of History at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the conversation brings together diverse voices and perspectives.

Panelists include Dillon Beal, Director of Collections at the Corpus Christ Museum of Science and History, and Kim Cox, an avocational archaeologist, who will share insights from their research and discuss how archaeology connects to the stories and legacies of Indigenous and Native Texas peoples today. Love Sanchez, a representative of a community group named Indigenous Peoples of the Coastal Bend, will offer a vital perspective on the contemporary significance of these histories. Dr. Moore will frame the conversation through the lens of Native American history and the evolving relationship between archaeology and Native communities.

Don’t miss this powerful dialogue at the intersection of science, heritage, and community.

Food will be served.
